Sopelako Geoturismoa: Flysch Bizkaiko bisitaldi gidatuak

This summer, Sopela‘s commitment to geotourism through Flysch Bizkaia will become a key element in developing the area as a sustainable tourist destination. The local government has initiated a program of guided tours aimed at enhancing visitors’ connection with nature and the cultural heritage of the town. The project aims to promote local development while valuing millions of years of geological history.

The Local Development Area, with the support of the Sopela tourism office, will organize six free guided tours from July to September, allowing both residents and visitors to discover the town’s geological and cultural heritage. The guided tours will take place in the mornings at various locations around Sopela.

According to the local authorities, “These guided tours emphasize local resources, raising awareness among the community about their value. The Flysch has also been equipped with interpretative tables to enhance the experience of those interested in exploring this unique natural setting.”

The program will kick off on July 12 with the Panel Route, followed by visits to Santa Marina and Munarri on July 26, and the Meteorite Route on August 1. The pillow lavas of Meñakoz will be presented on August 16, while in September, visitors can explore the Iron Belt Route on the 2nd and the Cliff Route on the 20th.

For those interested in participating, they can contact the tourism office via email (turismo@sopela.eus) or phone (94 406 55 19).
